Windmill Water is proud to be New Mexico owned and family operated. Windmill Water was the "brainstorm" of Leon Ricter, President. After lots of work and market research, Windmill Water was incorporated in 1995. Windmill Water was available for home delivery of our signature half gallon size in October 1996. In April 2002, a 5 gallon bottling line was added. In March 2006, a 3 gallon bottle was added to our product line. Today, Windmill Water delivers to many homes and business in the Albuquerque area as well as the west side and the east mountains.
Our signature half gallon bottles “hit” the streets in October of 1996. We began by canvassing homes door to door and leaving a case of our half gallon returnable bottles with a brochure at each doorstep. Two days later, we’d return to pick up the bottle, and hopefully a new customer order. So began the process of establishing our delivery routes in Albuquerque. Our children were in 2nd grade and kindergarden when we started the business. Their first question off the school bus most days was. . .do we have to bottle today?? Every Saturday was spent doing bottle drops. Their days off school were spent in a delivery truck with us.
Leon is the plant manager and your "water boy". Wife, Diana is the office manager. After "growing up" working in a small business, we’ve encouraged our children to “gain some experience on their own” before making a decision to return the family business.
This is what it means to grown up in a family owned business. Here’s an excerpt of a letter from our daughter.. . .Growing up in a family owned business, our Saturday mornings were filled with getting new customers and our weekday evenings were filled with bottling. Bottling wasn’t a 15-minute task and then it was done for the week but rather a task that had to be completed every evening. Looking back on the years we put into the business and the time we sacrificed as a family, I would redo it again if I had the chance.
Our daughter and her dad the day our bottles "hit the streets" of Albuquerque.
Windmill Water, Inc., meets the State of New Mexico requirements for a water supply system but we don't stop there! Our water goes through a five step purification process before being bottled for our customers. Water quality testing is done on a daily basis and test results meet all requirements.
